Biography

 

Ed Mayne has an extensive background and experience as a business owner, community leader, and former senior executive. He is known for his exemplary achievements in both business and public service. Ed’s leadership and his proven ability to take a common-sense approach to issues at hand has resulted him leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of Parksville and beyond.
 

He was born and raised in Port Colborne, Ontario. His early experiences as a result of growing up in a family with a modest income means instilled in him not only the need for a strong work ethic and but developed a keen understanding of fiscal and personal financial management, laying the foundation for his future success.
 

Ed's journey began at the young age of 16 when he entered the banking industry. Progressing from banking into real estate, construction, engineering and planning, Ed excelled, eventually rising to the position of Senior Vice President of the largest quick service restaurant company in Canada. His tenure in this role, prior to 2003, was characterized by innovation and strategic vision, shaping the development of over 2,000 restaurants as well as numerous other construction and development initiatives.
 

In 2003, Ed and his wife Lilian made the transition to self employment, establishing their own small business which has continued to flourish under their combined leadership for over two decades. Their commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction propelled the business to unprecedented success, earning both a reputation as a savvy and accomplished business owners.
 

In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, Ed's dedication to public service led him to serve as the Mayor of Parksville for an impressive seven-year tenure. Under his leadership, Parksville experienced unprecedented growth and prosperity, earning recognition as one of the most financially viable municipalities in British Columbia. Ed's adept fiscal management ensured that property taxes remained among the lowest increases in the province, providing relief for residents while maintaining and improving essential services, all well creating a massive cash reserve account for the future.

During his tenure as Mayor, Ed spearheaded initiatives to address the pressing need for affordable housing, resulting in Parksville developing more apartments per capita than any other municipality in British Columbia. His focus on creating affordable rental units not only met a critical community need but also cemented Parksville's reputation as a leader in sustainable urban development.
 

Outside of his professional pursuits, Ed finds immense joy in his family life. Married with two grown children and a beloved grandchild, he cherishes spending quality time with his loved ones. He makes time to play in a rock and roll band on a weekly basis with a group of friends as his form of relaxation.
 

Ed continues to make a positive impact through his business acumen and community engagement by being on a number of non profit Board of Directors in addition to his day to day requirements of the family businesses. He remains committed to driving innovation, fostering economic prosperity for all the economic levels, and building vibrant communities for future generations through his proven leadership and the ability to get the job done.
